What is the color behind the emotions that tell your story
how brave the colors of your world
The art of Robilee McIntyre invites the appreciator to a hidden world of imaginings that are in plain sight. A world that explores the complexities of color, the dynamics between abandonment and reclamation and the elusive flight of motion and emotion. Robilee is able to capture the meeting of fluid abstraction and fantastical color work with her imagination through a sublime and intuitive intimacy between artist and materials. No matter the medium her exuberant works are fluid and expressed in energetic textures, color filled layers and multiple sheens. The paintings are shimmering gems that undulate in your vision as you move through any room they are in. Her ceramic work is detailed and rich, both in tactile experience and depth of color. Her sculptures a rich take on reimagination coupled with trademark Robilee quirky sweet oddness.
McIntyres paintings are jewels that capture the heart through the eyes of each figure. A lifelong fascination with medieval iconography is as the figures often have the feel of traditional Christian statuary and art, often imbedded hidden figures offer insight to another level of interactions on the canvases. The abstractly expressive enigmatic figures often also have the feeling of being spirit guides McIntyre often focuses on a song or an album and allows the colors to be chosen by the music. In a way she paints the music, not with literal translations, but instead with the flow and color McIntyre sees in her minds eye everytime she begins a painting. The poetry of a song is often reflected and this lifelong relationship with sound and color make an art together that is hue-rich, deep and textured.
Born in Ogdensburg, NY, McIntyre has, since early childhood, been submerged in creation. Born from a singular imagination alive in conjunction with a contradictorily introverted world view expanded by multi-cultural travel, Robilees art has, for over forty years translated into project after project in many mediums. A lifetime spent with the singular drive to create coupled with an intelligence driven eye for old world quality and ingenuity has helped her to develop innovative processes that she uses in multifaceted ways. Robilee has also fostered a vein of creativity focused around the conversations of consumable disposal. A deeply seated question around understanding the things we think are precious and the things we toss away. Deep dives into this are evident in her evocative found object sculptures. Robilee has carried these themes into building renovation as well. Mcintyres love of clay and ceramic creation often involves the use of locally sourced indigenous clays and claimed cast off metal fired into her pieces. She is deeply moved by and her resonance with wind and all objects celestial and this can be seen directly in her empyreal ceramic work.
Her art life is deep and rich. That shows in her work. In every piece of every thing she creates.
